Meghalaya is a state in northeast India. Meghalaya was formed by cutting out two districts from the state of Assam: the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills.

 Shillong:

Shillong is a hill station in northeast India and the capital of Meghalaya. It’s famous for the well-groomed gardens at Lady Hydari Park. Close by, Ward’s Lake is surrounded by walking trails. North, the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures features shows on the region’s local people. Waterfalls include the Elephant Falls toward the southwest. East of here, forested Shillong Peak offers city views.

Via Air: The Shillong Airport is located in Umroi, around 40 km from the city’s heart and is also famous as Barapani Air Force Base or Umroi Airport. It is a tiny airport and has flights operated by Indian Airlines that run only to/from Kolkata on particular days in a week. Famous Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is located in Borjhar, Guwahati, and serves as a better option to connect to Shillong.

Via Train: Guwahati railway station is the nearest railway station situated at a distance of 105 Km from Shillong. The city is well associated with all other major cities of the country via rail medium. There are also taxi as well as bus facility.

By Road: For Shillong, the main interstate bus stand is located in Guwahati, and the transports are controlled by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC). Two main highways pass through Shillong, NH 40, connecting the city to Guwahati and NH 44 connects the town to Tripura. Privately run buses also combine the two cities of Shillong and Guwahati, and the service is economical. The private transports are in better condition but have crowded and have comparatively more stops en route. The journey usually takes 4 hours.
